is wade redden single?

I'm always intrigued by what Google searches bring people to this blog.

Despite the fact that the primary subject is the Ottawa Senators, very few searches seem to have anything to do with the team. That's somewhat demoralizing, but I'll live.

The most common search, surprisingly, is "sean avery", often with "rachel hunter" also included. What that says about people, I don't know, other than they're apparently very interested in a marginally talented, borderline racist hockey player's love life. Do people wonder who Donald Brashear is dating? What kind of girls Bob Propert slept with on the road?

But "is wade redden single?" may be the best search yet, if for no other reason than to see the sites it did bring up, among them The Tall, Dark and Handsome Guys of the NHL. If you wanted to scope out some alleged hot men like Geoff Courtnall, Matthew Barnaby, Oleg Tverdovsky, and Dainius Zubrus, I imagine that's the site to visit. They also have sections like "Czechs And Slovaks", "Fine-looking Finns", and "Bulldog Cute" (?).

Redden's sex symbol status in this town is somewhat legendary. Go to the Corel Centre on game day and you'll be sure to see at least a couple dozen 20-something females with #6 Senators jerseys, many of whom stand in awe by the glass during the pre-game warmups. Back in the 1999 playoffs, when the Sens were swept by the Buffalo Sabres in the first round despite being heavy favorites to win the series, Redden played terribly, giving up the puck more times than I'm sure anyone could count. At one such game, a angry fan hurled a whole lotta obsenities at Redden after one such play. Richard Pryor would've been offended. One of #6's devoted fans hurled them right back at the possibly intoxicated Sens fan. I had to admire her loyalty. Even with her dream man playing like total shit, she was standing by him. I thought she was nuts and probably needed a restraining order put against her, but I respected her.

Oh, and to the lady (or gentleman, I suppose) who asked the question, I have no idea.

Eklund-like rumors:

I heard he is quite the man-whore. I also heard that after Whiskey Bar shuts down, he does lines of coke off tables.

I've heard the Redden drug use stuff too, for at least a couple years. And from different sources within the Ottawa sporting community and from guys who work in the local sports media, sources I feel are at least moderately credible.

No idea if its true or not, but after I while, I must admit I'm starting to think that "where there's smoke..."

I've spoke with some of his ex-girlfriends. Can't say it was very enlightening. The newer ex-girlfriends don't seem to know much about this drug issue.

It sounds to me like a bunch of people are butting into something that is not their business. Who among any profesional sports is a sanctified virgin??? Between the players of any pro sport and the warped go around the team dreamers that would lift their skirt and spread them for anyone posessing more than a $20, get a life. Your feable attempts to get your dream man only make those of us who are true fans of sports sick. Who cares how many any player sleeps with? Why don't you tally your date cards for the public. As for the drug use...let the proper sport investigators worry about that. If you need something to talk about, how about how the sens are going to kick butt in the playoffs and walk with the cup.

Does it really matter what Redden or any other NHL'er does in his private life? All that should matter is how they conduct themselves on the ice or when they are representing the team in public. As fans, we don't have anything to complain about in that area, with Redden or any other Sens player. They represent our team and our city with a great deal of pride, maybe it would be time better spent to talk about that? But sadly that is not how the world works, is it? We would rather believe the worst in each other and that is very sad. Instead of talking about something someone might have said that might know someone that might work in or around the Sens is crazy, not to mention a hard sentence to put together! Forget about the rumours you might have heard about drugs or as someone put it being a man whore unless you have first hand knowledge. As the saying goes, small things amuse very small minds. Lets concentrate on an amazing team making what hopefully will be a very long Stanley cup run and the amazing talents we have on the team. So admire the Sens for their incredible talents on the ice and leave their private life private, as it should be. Oh and one more thing, not every girl wearing a number 6 jersey is trying to get her dream man, some of us truly love the game of hockey and respect Redden for both his on ice and off ice contributions such as his work with Cheo and 65 Roses. See you all at the Stanley Cup parade!

I agree with the last comment. Leave the rumors behind you and focus on the game and the team. Not about what you think or might think they are on. I am a big Redden fan, and he is an amazing player. Hope he stays in Ottawa for the duration of his career!

Alright, I've read enough and I have to defend him! I was fortunate enough to go to the 65 Roses Royal Gala on Monday that just passed, which would have been Feb 11th! I met Wade Redden and I have to tell you, he is an amazing guy, he is very talented and he does alot for 65 Roses, my brother died of Cystic Fibroisis four years ago this April, and if it weren't for the support of Wade Redden and the Senators, I don't know what my family would have done! Wade Redden does not do drugs, that is a rumour, a very false rumour, and no he is not a man whore either, his career and the work he does for charities comes first with him...and let's not forget his fans, he is not like most rich people who care for noone but themselves, he puts everyone first before him! He is a really wonderful guy, and a great hugger too! I was lucky enough to receive one of those from him too! So whatever you hear about Redden and drugs, and being a manwhore is not at all true! And as for his ex girlfriends, I wouldn't believe a word they say either cuz they are just mad and hurt that them and him weren't meant to be so he had to break there hearts. Redden is an incredibly sweet guy, he is easy to approach, easy to get along with and you can't help but love him once you meet him! I flat out told him how much I loved him and how much of a great player he is and I got a hug for point is, he is not a bad guy and not at all what people portray him to be, they can be so judgemental but to those who have actually met him and gotten to know the real him, it's pretty clear that people are lying, spreading rumors because they are just jealous! Jealousy is an illness of the mind! I absolutely love Redden, he is an awesome player, a very talented man and he does alot of good! I can't say enough about him! So people who are on here bad mouthing Redden, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all! Leave him alone because what you think of him is completely wrong! You don't know him, you only know of him and by that I mean, what you've heard about don't judge him! Redden is a good guy, it's not our fault your jealous!
