New blood in the line-up tonight

With Mike Fisher out with an undisclosed "upper body injury", the Senators have called up rookie Patrick Eaves from Binghamton and he'll be suiting up for tonight's game against the Canadiens.

Anyone who follows this blog knows that I became a big fan of Eaves based on his play in the rookie tournament, and even though he was unable to sustain that quality of play into the pre-season games he played, having some fresh legs in the line-up tonight versus the Habs will be good for the team.

Why they called up Eaves over, say, Denis Hamel likely comes down to the fact that Eaves doesn't have to clear waivers the way Hamel would. And considering that Hamel was just given the C in Bingo, they probably don't want to risk losing him.
