When it rains it pours

Back in December, when the St. Louis Blues put Patrick Lalime on waivers, I wrote that I felt bad for the guy. Most of the response to that was "fuck 'em". I guess Sens fans have don't forgive easily and still blame Lalime for the Sens untimely exit at the hands of the Leafs in the spring of '04.

Lalime is now done for the year with a torn ACL suffered Saturday night. It's about as serious an injury as you can get as a hockey player. He'll be out until at least training camp and might just be done as a pro. Though it's foolish to completely write off anyone, I can't see any club taking a flier on a guy who's not only struggled as badly as he has but now also is coming off major surgery.

I know a lot of you hold grudges, but this is truly one of the best guys in the NHL. Whatever you think of him as a goalie and what he did or didn't accomplish during his time in Ottawa, somewhere you have to feel sorry for Lalime.

Here's hoping he bounces back and finds a way to regain the form that made him so popular on and off the ice for three years in Ottawa. The league needs more Patrick Lalimes in it.

Yeah, I will always applaud him for his play against Philly in the playoffs... maybe Clarke will remember and try him on as a backup or something, but everyone knows that he had no chance to redeem himself for that game seven on a team as bad as the Blues this year.
