Bring on Buffalo

We now know who Ottawa will be facing in the next round: a familar foe in the Buffalo Sabres.

If we're calling a spade a spade, I would've rather the Sens played Montreal, as I view them to be an inferior team. However, in Buffalo, they're facing a team that they cannot afford to slack off against the way they did every so often in the Tampa Bay series. If Ottawa does, the Sabres will eat them alive.

Either way, should be a tremendous series.

outtabe fun untested goalie versus goalie who still finding himself. outta be very fun indeed..both teams have 2 or 3 lines they can roll..both play fast and both seem to have a lamentable overdose of offense :D i will be surprised if any game has less then 4 goals combined.

If Ottawa is going to make it to the Cup Finals, they're inevitably going to come across a strong team. Good teams find ways to win, and this will be a great test for the Sens. Look on the bright side. At least half our building won't be filled with Canadien sweaters.

But ours will be half-filled with Ottawa sweaters!

Looking forward to it anyway.

With the emergence of the Havlat/Fisher/Schaefer line, I think the time has come to put Alfredssen back on the top line with Spezza and Heatley. With that change, the team will have two very solid scoring lines that are responsible defensively, something they'll need against Buffalo. If one line is getting shut down, the other can pick up the slack.

Eaves, Vermette and the others would be fine on the 3rd and 4th lines, where they could provide the occassional offensive spark while otherwise checking hard, avoiding turnovers, and focusing primarily on time of possession.

It looks like Fisher really is good enough to be the second line center this team has been lacking for so long, particularly with Havlat and Schaefer at his side.

This is going to be a fabulous series, between 2 teams who play hockey the way I like to see it played. The only difference in standings between Ottawa and Buffalo is that Ottawa has 3 more OT wins. Agreed about the goalies, but I think Emery will be very sharp.
Ottawa in 6.

Chris,

Just wanted to stop by and say good luck in this series. I'm not going to put up a brave face and say I'm not worried or some other over-macho BS like that. This has all the makings of a fantastic series of games (if they can just find a couple of arenas to play them in).

I'm throwing up my prediction/analysis this evening. Let me know when you do the same and I'll make sure the Sabres faithful get wind of it.

Ta,

p.s. and if I had my druthers I would have preferred NJ as the 6th seed playing you guys in the 2nd round.... I guess I have even more reason to hate the Rangers.

Tom,

Should be a fun series. The Sabres are a likeable bunch so I won't have as much fun cursing them out as I usually do.
