Sens sign Martin Gerber

No terms known yet. Will update when we get them.

Good news, I think.

UPDATE: Contract is three years at $11.1 million, or $3.7 per. Seems mighty high to me.

Fantastic. Does this mean the Hasek saga has ended?

Yes. Hasek's not coming back to be a back-up and Gerber's not coming here if Hasek's around causing his usual drama.

With Gerber and Emery as our one-two punch, I think Ottawa has definitely solidified the goaltending the goaltending position. What remains to be seen is whether Emery will remain the back-up (he played much better in the starter position when Hasek was out), or if Murray will split games between the two goaltenders. I'm comfortable with either of them in net during the regular season, although I think Emery is our playoff man.

I'm waiting for the terms of the deal to leak before I get too excited, but I'm inclined to agree with you.

It might be high, but I like Gerber. Hopefully he can do well.

Gerber had one very good regular season followed by play-off failure.I guess he will fit in very well....

The "playoff failure" was a result of him being severely ill. If you recall, when he came in later in the playoffs, he excelled.

Gerber...
Not really...he had one good game with New Jersey, then following game had to be pulled out and never returned.
Now...I have nothing against Gerber. But I don't think he is a solution for Senators goaltending problems and 11.1 mil. for 3 years he is not exactly a"bargain".

Where did I, or anyone, say he was a bargain?

you didn't say it I did....feeling edgy eh?

Not edgy, but I got the impression you were arguing against it being a bargain as if someone was making that point.

It's a not a bargain, but in this market, what has been? Looking for one in nets is the last place the Sens can afford to skimp.

That was my point exactly....I am not critical of your posts whatsoever.I am not a Senators fan(I still root for Sharks because I followed them since they were expansion team when I was living in California and for Carolina because that's where I live now). But I think Senators are great team to watch and they managed to built a very good team(except goalies...somehow they just cannot fix that problem).I would like them to do well in the play-offs(I think their fans who supported them for all those years deserve it)but with Gerber as #1 I can't see it happening....
Milan
P.S.By the way you have very good blog. You manage to stay focused on hockey and ignore that political/nationalistic crap that pollutes some other blogs.
