As important as a game in October can be

Much has been made about tonight's game between the Sens and the Calgary Flames. A lot of that is due to the long delay between games, however, there is a genuinely large level of discomfort in the city with the Senators right now. A lot of nervousness.

It's absurd to say a game on October 12th is a must win game. It'll only be the fourth game of thr season. It's still early. But they need this win. Before this ship sinks even further, it needs to be righted.

The powerplay needs to start rolling. Martin Gerber needs to make a number of big saves and instill some confidence in his teammates so they can play an aggressive game without worrying that every single mistake will result in a goal. Jason Spezza, Dany Heatley, Wade Redden, and Daniel Alfredsson, the team's best and highest paid players, need to start playing like it. The team as a whole needs to display some sort of desire from the first drop of the puck.

We're gonna find out what this group's made of very quickly.

It's an important game for both teams as both Ottawa and Calgary are struggling Stanley Cup contenders. I expect both teams to come out playing hard tonight but if one of them comes out flat it isn't a good sign.

BTW, I think Ray Emery is getting the start.

Looks like Emery's getting the start, not Gerber.

At least we've won a game, it must be hard to be a Carolina fan right now.

That being said, we need to start winning just to shut up the naysayers and Leafs fans in the capital!

Pizza! Pizza!

1) Too soon to sound the panic button just yet. However in the tight East any lost point whether in October or April will be felt!
2) Should be a good test to see if this version of the Sens are ready to answer the bell.

Ottawa fans relax...

If you score two goals you're golden.

Calgary CAN't score.

its true

At least Carolina fans (all 137? of them) know their team can win in the playoffs when it really counts.

I sort of hope we lose. I'd rather see Ottawa have to fight for a playoff spot than to coast into one.

Thats a common view now actually - a lot of Sens fans i've spoken to want to see them get in as the 3rd or 4th seed (or even just scrape it) as opposed to 1st just to see if that makes a difference and maybe that will make the team come out fighting in the playoffs.
