A confession

I didn't see last night's Sens-Sabres game. A previous engagement had me out and about, and my attempt to dust off the VCR and record the game (yes, I'm still behind on the PVR bandwagon) didn't go so well. As a result, I have no thoughts.

And since they won, I'm debating "missing" Monday night's game against Minnesota, watching it on a delay when doing so will have no effect on the outcome one way or another.

Too bad you missed, it was an awesome game. I was looking forward to what you would have thought of as bad things for the Sens. Oh well.

It takes a special kind of arrogance to think that one can sway the outcome of a game by watching or not watching it. The credit or blame belongs to the players and no one else. Watch the live game tomorrow, McMurtry. It should be a good one Will this be Todd White's first trip back to Ottawa?

donald, it's not arrogance. It's superstition. Millions of fans do similar things. Wear a specific jersey, sit in the exact same seat, etc. Hell, the players have superstitions. The only arrogance here is you, telling people how to enjoy the game they love.

Settle down anonymous, whoever you are...Players' "superstitions" are things they do to get psychologically ready/focussed for a game. I do the cross over my chest before going every soccer game i play. My point is that it is ultimately up to the players to win or lose games.
You are right though, I have no business telling anyone how to enjoy a game. Still, I hate to break it to you but: nothing you wear, nowhere you sit and nothing you do has any affect on anyone at anytime at any game, anywhere.

Donald, lighten up a bit. I don't think Chris, or anyone else, seriously believes that these superstitions work. It's just a bit of fun.

I made the same kinds of jokes after I missed the Buffalo game on Wednesday and they won. I still watched the games on Friday and Saturday. My wife and I have joked about selling our ticket package since we're apparently bad luck. With only a 10 game package, we must have seen 90% of their home losses last year. I also still jokingly accuse my father of losing the 2003 conference finals for the Sens since he was in the bathroom for the Friesen's goal. It had nothing to do with it, but it's fun to tease him about.

It's all nonsense, but it's fun.

you're right Mike; I know better than to argue when I'm wrong.

Chris, have you been avoiding your TV this week? Whatever you're doing/eating/wearing, keep it up!

I'm going through withdrawal! I need the McMurty wisdom!

Seriously though, I really enjoy the analysis here, and have been a long time lurker. I thought I'd post up and let you know how much you're appreciated, in case you needed motivation.

Thanks for the great writing!

I jokingly told you not to take any more long breaks as in your over the summer hiatus as my way of saying how much I enjoyed your writing....didn't mean for you to do the opposite and not post anymore....

chris? CHRIS!? Come on, man we need you. I feel so lost. Every time this happens I fearfully check the obituaries in the Citizen. Nothing yet, thank God. I just need some sign of life to keep me sane. Anything.

I think after the Sens lose a game he will return. He believes that as he continues not to post, the Sens will continue to win.
